The Organisation's Staff

The level of staff needed to organise the Planning Engineers Organisation will necessarily change over time, especially as the Organisation grows and develops.

The members of staff for the early stages of the Organisation are as follows:

Chairman

The Chairman is Gary France and his role is to:

  • Set the vision and objectives of the PEO.
  • Set up and determine the strategy of the PEO.
  • Determine how the PEO will be run.
  • Drive new ideas through to completion.
  • Determine the day-to-day activities of the PEO.
  • Liaise with Government and other Institutes / Associations.
  • Promote the PEO.
  • Appoint members of the Steering Group.
  • To chair meetings of the Steering Group
  • Manage the finances of the PEO.
  • Select and appoint staff.
Steering Group

This consists of up to six members of the PEO, plus the Chairman. The members of the Steering Group can hold this position for a maximum of 3 years. This is to ensure fresh thinking. They are senior experienced planners and schedulers and are appointed by the Chairman. Steering Group members are granted free membership of the Organisation at Fellow grade. The role of the Steering Group is to:

  • Assist with the development of the PEO by contributing fresh ideas.
  • Assist with determining policy of the PEO.
  • Approve the Governance and rules of the PEO, including any revisions.
  • Select the members of the Membership Panel.
Membership Panel

This panel consists of a number of members of the PEO, the exact number being determined by the Steering Group. There is no time limit on how long somebody can sit on the Membership Panel. The individuals who sit on the membership panel are granted free membership of the Organisation, for the period they hold that position. The role of the Membership Panel is to:

  • Review applications for membership to the PEO.
  • Review all proposals for upgrades in membership of the PEO.
  • Accept or reject applications for membership, or changes in membership grade.
  • Each application will be reviewed by 4 members of the Membership Panel. At least one of these will ideally be from the applicants own industry.
  • Three out of the four members of the Membership Panel must agree to accept or reject the application.
  • If the decision to accept or reject the applicant to the PEO is split 2 to 2, then the final decision will be made by the Chairman.

Regional / Industry Representatives

The PEO has a number of regional and industry representatives. These planners and schedulers provide advice to the PEO about planning and scheduling in their country and / or specific industry. The PEO is currently looking to add to this list, so if you would like to be one of our regional / industry representatives, then please contact the Chairman of the PEO, Gary France

The Regional / Industry representatives are:

  • Guenther Preuhs (USA - Chicago)
  • John Keeton (South Africa)
Training Co-ordinator

The training undertaken by the Organisation will be undertaken online, in association with a University. The Training Co-ordinator will be a member of the University's staff. The Training Co-ordinator's role is to:

  • Assist in determining training course content.
  • Arrange for the training course content to be written and published via the Internet.
  • Undertake all administration relating to organising and implementing the training course.
  • Upgrading course content.
Website and Systems Manager

As the majority of the business of the Organisation will be undertaken and published on-line, this is a key role.

Tim Penrose is the Organisation's website and systems manager.

Forum Moderators

The website of the Organisation will contain comprehensive on-line discussion forums for members and non-members. The role of the Forum Moderators is to monitor the content of the forums and to ensure that no inflammatory, inappropriate or copyrighted material is posted in the forums. There will be forums for each industry and general planning engineering related forums. Each forum will require approximately 3 or 4 part-time, moderators to monitor the content. 3 or 4 Moderators are required for each forum to ensure content is monitored 24 hours per day 7 days per week. The moderators are ideally members of the Organisation.

The forums are currently under development and the PEO is looking for people to volunteer as forum moderators. If you, or somebody you know, would like to be considered for one of these positions, please contact the Chairman.

Knowledge Manager

The Knowledge Manager reviews material submitted to the Organisation for publication on its website. The role of the Knowledge Manager is to:

  • Accept, review, co-ordinate and publish on the Organisation's website the following:
    • Members dissertation papers
    • Members project case studies
    • Lead time data
    • Plant and equipment data
    • Information on legal case relating to the time aspects of projects
    • Books and publications information
    • Links to appropriate websites
    • Data on relevant computer software
  • Write, in association with the Administration Leader and the Chairman, the Organisation's quarterly newsletter.
Administration Leader

This role will includes the following:

  • Managing the Organisation's office.
  • Dealing with all administrative aspects of the Organisation.
  • Normal secretarial duties - typing, telephone, electronic filing, dealing with queries, diary management.
  • Searching the Internet for planning engineering related websites.
  • Uploading information on to the Organisation's website.

Claire Rickard is the Organisation's Administration Leader.

Publications Manager

The role of the Publications Manager is to review the dissertation papers submitted as part of the membership application process and to decide which will be published on the PEO website for access by members.

William Powell is the Publications Manager.

Lead Software Reviewer

Planning engineers worldwide use a multitude of different computer software packages to plan the time aspects of a wide variety of projects. The Software Reviewer will receive a copy of such software and with others, write an independent review of the merits of each. This role will require co-ordination with the software companies.

Events Researcher

There are many events organised across the world that are of interest to Planners and Schedulers. We are currently looking for somebody to research when and where these are to ensure that the details of such events are publicised on the PEO website.
